Hotel QR Codes

Hotels use QR (quick response) codes are like barcodes that are placed on things to be read with your smart phone or other reader. It links to a site or information that the creator wishes for the guest to access. The codes are relatively simple to create for anyone and offer the key to the new age in marketing and business. There are some reasons why hotels use QR codes.

Hospitality marketers in the hotel industry have used QR codes for ages to create incentives for their guests. QR codes offer an excellent green alternative for marketers. These codes are placed in various locations around the hotel for guests to scan and gain incentives for future visits. When these codes are used during conferences in defense of the hotel, they help bring the hotel new customers.

The codes can be used in an entertaining manner that allows the guests to feel as though they are participating in a social networking game. When QR codes are used properly, they offer an excellent marketing technique to gain new visitors to the hotel and maintain loyalty to the brand name. In this case, the brand name is the hotel. The guests will remember their experiences being a positive one because they are gaining discounts in savings as guests of the hotel. When hotels use QR codes as a way to give their guests something that they did not have before, it will be seen by the guests as something that they are getting free. This psychological hook makes using QR codes beneficial to hotels.

Dining options are another means to use QR codes. The guests may be unaware of all of the dining options that exist. When they scanned the cover with their mobile phone, they are able to gain discounts and savings for dining. The hotel can use this as a means of income as marketing other local businesses. They can charge fees for advertising for the local businesses to their guests.

The best example of why hotels use QR codes is for their security system. Guests can be given their code that is downloaded to their mobile phone at check in. When they come to their door, they hold their mobile phone up to the door. This unlocks the door as it identifies them. They can use their mobile phones, in this manner, to pay for food and buy items within the hotel. Disney has used this for years with the old magnetic strip system. The guests were given magnetic strip cards that held their identity information. Anytime they entered any place on the Disney facilities, all they had to do was have a magnetic card swipes on the machines. This gave access to locations and showed how much money is available for purchases. This is not only green, but it is also an excellent means for security.

These examples are why hotels use QR codes for marketing and security. It is also an excellent way to gain income for the hotel from local businesses. It also promotes other businesses in the area as it offers the guests of the hotel it when they need during their stay. It is a green way of documenting the activity of the guests in the hotel. When incentives are added to the QR codes it also is a wonderful way to gain new guests and maintain loyalty.
